Vocalist Hamilton to sing with TH Symphony on April 20

The Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at Indiana State University’s Tilson Auditorium.

The guest vocalist, Kate Hamilton, is back in her home state and singing again with the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of David Bowden. She returns to perform “river music” including “Float my Boat,” “Shenandoah,” “Moon River,” “Up A Lazy River” and “On the Banks of the Wabash Far Away,” in celebration of 100 years of its selection as the official Indiana state song.

Hamilton earned her bachelor’s degree in music from Kenyon College in 2009. She has trained with Circle In The Square Theatre School, Il Conservatorio della Musica di Fiesole, Northwestern University, Indiana University, Butler University and Berklee College.

Other works on the program include “Moonlight Serenade,” “St. Louis Blues” and Smetana’s famous “The Moldau.”  Another much anticipated piece is the performance of “Wabash Portrait,” by local composer David Watkins.

The concert is in collaboration with the 2013 Year of the River.

Free “Family Time” concerts for children of all ages will be presented from 2 to 2:30 p.m., during the Saturday dress rehearsal in Tilson Auditorium.

“Concert Conversations with David Bowden” is scheduled for 6:45 p.m.

The concert will be preceded by “Supper at the Symphony” at 5:30 p.m. in Tilson’s Heritage Ballroom.
