Eastern Illinois University’s Celebration Arts Festival April 19-21

News Release

---- — Eastern Illinois University’s Celebration Arts Festival is scheduled to return to the Charleston campus Friday through Sunday.

“Since the beginning, this festival has made it a point to present a wide variety of artists and art forms,” said Dan Crews, director of the festival, which first happened in 1977. “Celebration doesn’t focus on one genre or one particular theme.”

As part of this year’s festivities the Office of Study Abroad will present a traditional Hindu celebration of Holi on Friday. EIU will have its own observation of the age-old “Festival of Colors” from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Library Quad.

This will be the second year the festival will take place on South Seventh Street between the Doudna Fine Arts Center and Buzzard Building. The festival is free of charge and will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, with the last performance beginning at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

On Saturday and Sunday, the show will feature potters, jewelers, photographers, painters and sculptors. All the artwork is hand-crafted by the artists attending the festival. This year’s art fair is dedicated to Doug Lawhead, who passed away at the beginning of the fall semester. For a schedule of events, visit www.eiu.edu/celebration.

Admission and parking are free and the Celebration grounds are handicapped accessible.
