Fab ’40s Band show to benefit students
The Fabulous Forties Dance Band will be the featured entertainment from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday at the First Christian Church Family Life Center, 902 N. Sixth St. in Marshall, Ill.
A spaghetti dinner is scheduled for 6 to 8:30 p.m.
The Marshall High School jazz bands will open the evening. After a short intermission, the Fabulous Forties Band will take over.
The Fabulous Forties is a professional dance band based in the Wabash Valley that has been performing for nearly 20 years throughout Illinois and Indiana. Some of the classic dance tunes include “In The Mood,” “Star Dust” and “Satin Doll.”
This dinner-dance is open to the public. Adult tickets are $10 in advance or $12.50 at the door. Student tickets are $5 at the door. Tickets are available through any Marshall band student or the Marshall Advocate newspaper office and HeavenBound Bookstore.
The event benefits the summer music camp scholarship fund for Marshall music students.
St. Pat’s plans run, parade, party, dinner
The 36th annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration will begin with the Irish Dash 5K walk/run at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Registration for the event is from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Church parking lot.
Cost is $15 in advance and $20 on race day. All participants will receive a T-shirt with entry. Registration forms can be picked up in the St. Patrick’s school office.
The annual St. Pat’s parade will begin at 1 p.m. in the former Schulte High School parking, just north of Baesler’s Market. The parade will travel west on Ohio Boulevard to 19th Street, ending in St. Patrick’s School parking lot.
Betty Seprodi will be the honorary mayor for the parade.
The annual St. Pat’s dinner and party will begin at 6 p.m. with a traditional Irish corn beef and cabbage dinner until 8:30 p.m.
Dinner will be followed with dancing and music by the MacDaddys.
Tickets for the dinner/party are available at the school office. Tickets are $30 and must be purchased in advance.

Planetarium to host seasonal star show
The Allen Memorial Planetarium will present a Seasonal Star Program at 6:30 p.m. on March 22 and at 2 and 4 p.m. on March 23.
A 30-minute educational program will introduce the constellations and other astronomical wonders of the sky for the spring season. There is no charge for the program, but donations will be accepted.
The planetarium, located on the property of South High School, provides educational programs for students in the Vigo County School Corp., for students in surrounding counties and for community groups.

Alpaca hands-on events at SMWC
White Violet Farm Alpacas is hosting a hands-on workshop to teach alpaca care on March 23 at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.
The workshop, “Alpaca 201: Herd Health Practicum,” will allow participants to spend the day in the alpaca barn and pastures, learning to administer injections and oral medications, trim toenails and weigh animals. Attendees will also practice herding, separating and techniques for handling and restraint. Participants will assist with shearing an alpaca and learn the procedure for fecal testing by centrifugal flotation.
The workshop is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $75, which includes lunch and snacks.
The workshop is geared for beginning alpaca farmers and people considering alpaca ownership. No previous classes are required to attend.
White Violet Farm Alpacas is a nonprofit ministry of the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, and helps support programs of ecological justice education, organic agriculture and fiber education.

Luncheon to benefit town’s Heritage Days
The Festivals and Events committee of Martinsville on the Move is sponsoring a freewill-donation soup, sandwich and dessert luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on March 24 in the Community Center in Martinsville, Ill.
The proceeds will benefit a new family festival, “Heritage Days on the Old National Road,” to be held June 15 and 16 in downtown Martinsville.
Clark County’s first-ever all-equine parade will start the festival at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
The festival will also include a National Road storyteller, bands providing music for both days, artist and artisan booths and demonstrations, a bike rodeo, games and activities, food vendors and exhibits that include an antique tractor show.
‘Eggstravaganza’ set for Montezuma Park
The second annual “Eggstravaganza” egg hunt is set for noon to 4 p.m. on March 30 at Aztec Park in Montezuma.
The event will include inflatables, face painting, free food, egg coloring, activities and prizes. Christian bands will be playing all afternoon.
Participants are asked to arrive at 11:45 a.m., and the egg hunt will begin at noon.

Benefit events set for Sullivan Luke House
The Luke House is scheduled to host a live auction, spaghetti dinner and gospel sing, beginning at 9:30 a.m. March 30 at the Sullivan 4-H building. Dinner and music are set for noon to 6:30 p.m.

‘Moon River’ benefit to feature Hamilton
The Terre Haute Symphony will host a “Moon River: Reflections” fundraiser featuring Indiana native and Broadway performer Kate Hamilton on April 19 in the Country Club of Terre Haute at Allendale.
Hors d’ouevres and cash bar will begin at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7.
The cost is $86 per person or $660 for a table for eight, which includes wine pairings with dinner. Black tie dress is optional. Seating is limited.

Spring Break Biathlon to aid Clark parks
The Clark County Spring Break Biathlon is set for April 20 in Mill Creek Park in Marshall, Ill.
The events include a 3.1-mile run, 15-mile bike and 1-mile fun run/walk. The running route is a primarily paved road with a short section of gravel, and the bike route is a paved road with a mild elevation change.
The fun run/walk will begin at 9 a.m. CDT at the Lions shelter by the boat ramp. The biathlon will begin at 9:30 a.m. Registration and packet pickup will be from 8 to 9 a.m.
Team entry forms should be submitted together and marked to indicate which team member is the runner and which is the biker. All participants must wear an ANSI- or Snell-approved helmet during the cycling portion of the event.
Light refreshments and door prizes will be available during the presentation of the biathlon awards.
