Events offer discussion of river-city connections

TERRE HAUTE — “Turn to the River: A Community Conversation” is scheduled for May 21 at the Girl Scout Program Center in Fairbanks Park.

The first of two public sessions is scheduled for 1 to 3 p.m., the second from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

According to a press release: “The public is invited to participate in discovering the ways in which public art and design may play a role in reconnecting Terre Haute’s downtown with the Wabash River, including the area surrounding City Hall and Vigo County Courthouse.”

Art Spaces received a planning grant through the National Endowment for the Arts, and other support is coming from Terre Haute Department of Redevelopment, City of Terre Haute Arts Grant, Indiana State University and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

“Turn to the River” is timed to coincide with 2013 Year of the River, an educational initiative headed by Art Spaces, Arts Illiana and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology permanent collections.
