Organist’s concert May 5

TERRE HAUTE — Organist Jonathan Rudy will be in concert performing works from the 1600’s to the present day at 4 p.m. on Sunday at Central Presbyterian Church, 125 N. Seventh St.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Rudy is the organist at the church and a doctoral student pursuing an organ performance degree at Indiana University.

Rudy, recognized by colleagues and audiences for excellence as a performer, church musician, improviser, educator and conductor, is a native of Batavia, Ill.

Rudy has also performed in Chicago, Indianapolis, Lexington, Ky., and Fort Wayne.

Rudy was recently a finalist in the National Organ Playing Competition in Fort Wayne and second-prize winner of the Regional Competition for Young Organists in 2011.

He received the Immanuel Organ Scholar Award in 2009 in Evanston, Ill., in recognition of excellence in performance and sacred music. He studies choral conducting at IU with professors William Gray and Richard Tangyuk, and Rudy regularly leads choral and instrumental ensembles. He has served as conductor for the AGO Bloomington Choralfest Ensemble and his church’s choirs and instrumental ensembles.

Rudy currently serves as the organist of Central Presbyterian Church and is an associate instructor of music theory and aural skills at IU.
