Dancing fundraiser to aid Clinton community rec center

CLINTON — Six new dancers have signed on to the 2013 Vermillion County “Dancing with the Stars” fundraiser on April 20 to benefit Community Recreation Center of Clinton.

Each dancer has been asked to sell tables for this event, raise funds and learn a dance routine to be preformed for more than 300 people.

The CRC has been part of the community for more than 90 years, starting as part of Clinton High School, becoming a part of South Vermillion Middle School and now in its current status.

The center currently houses several nonprofit organizations. The Kid Kare office, serving more than 400 children in Vermillion, Parke and Vigo counties, is located in the basement. Area 7 Agency uses the facility to serve meals though the Meals on Wheels program. More than 140 kids use the gymnasium for youth basketball and baseball, open gym is held every Sunday and senior walkers are able to use the gym to exercise Monday though Friday.Also, the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Lady Pomeroys call the CRC their home for basketball games.

The 2012 event raised more than $7,000, which is being put toward a new roof for the building, having an estimated cost around $100,000.

Tickets are $50 per person. A table for eight is $400.

Participants in the 2013 Vermillion County Dancing with the Stars competition include Vicki West, Ryan Jenkins, Haley Simpson, Andrew Poletto, TJ Clinkenbeard and Kristen Howerda.
