The Covered Bridge Art Association’s 39th annual spring art show and the grand opening of the gallery’s newly renovated second floor are scheduled to be celebrated together at an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
The public event is free. The gallery is located on the north side of the square in Rockville.
The spring art show actually begins on Friday and runs through May 31. Viewers can see traditional media of oils and watercolors, but also other media including acrylics, colored and graphite pencil, ink stippling, scroll saw, ceramics, pottery, cloth weaving, jewelry, basketry, fused glass and photography.
Chiz Henrichs of Brazil judged the show. She is a graduate of the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and taught there for several years. She also has classes in her studio. Her art has been exhibited all over the United States. Watercolors and porcelain painting are her specialities.
A popular vote will be conducted on Sunday evening. Those present during the weekend can choose their favorite.
The second-floor renovation has been in progress for a year. The renovation was funded from a matching grant from the Parke County Community Foundation, through other grants and with contributions from businesses and individuals.
“This $40,000 renovation is a source of pride for all,” the association said in a news release.
The gallery's permanent collection will be stored and displayed there, and the space also will host classes and events.
Door prizes for have been donated by Delores Collings, Susie Teschmacher and Helen Thomas. Winners will be selected at the end of May.
Hours at the gallery are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily (except closed Tuesdays) and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays.
