The Wabash Valley Art Guild will host its 13th annual Art in the Park on Aug. 16 in Fairbanks Park at Terre Haute. Events will include an artists’ market and a plein air painting competition followed by the Terre Haute Community Band concert.

A “Paint the River” plein air painting competition will begin with registration from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Patrick Shelter (behind the stage area). Registration fee is $5.

The competition is open to any artist over age 18. Artists may use any portable media that may be worked on site and are limited to working within the boundaries of Fairbanks Park. Artists will register their canvas, paper or other base material and have until 6 p.m. to return one finished work to the stage area for judging.

Awards will be presented during the Terre Haute Community Band concert.

The artists’ market will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Kiwanis, Lions and Patrick shelters. Booth space is available to artists over age 18 who wishes to show or sell their own artwork, prints of their originals or other items handcrafted by the artist. Art Guild members will be charged a $5 booth fee, and non-members, $10. The Art Guild will take no commission from works sold.
