4th of July Celebration starts today at Brazil’s Forest Park

BRAZIL, Ind. — The Brazil Rotary Club is gearing up for its 78th annual 4th of July Celebration, this year set for today through July 4.

The event serves as the club’s lone fundraiser each year. Proceeds from the event allow the club to support Rotary International in health and humanitarian projects and in the eradication of polio.

The club also contributes to nonprofit groups and organizations in Clay County.

Free nightly entertainment is scheduled in Forest Park. Admission and parking are free. Bringing lawn chairs is encouraged.  

Family Attractions Amusement Co. will present a midway. Costs will vary for rides; $20 unlimited ride armbands will be available for purchase at the ticket booth. The midway will open at 5:30 p.m. weekdays and at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and July 4.

The club also is scheduled to present the city’s annual fireworks gala at 10 p.m. on July 4, followed by a drawing at 11 p.m. for a $10,000 raffle.

All entertainment is scheduled for the Band Shell Stage, unless rain requires a move to the covered pavilion, also known as the Cow Palace.

Scheduled entertainment:


5 p.m. — Moore’s Dance Studio

6:15 p.m. — Studio One Dance by Cindy


5 p.m. — Tumble Express

7 p.m. — Toni’s Tumbling and Dance


8 a.m. — Firecracker 5K, the YMCA of Clay County

4 to 7 p.m. — Nelson’s Chicken Dinner at the pavilion; proceeds go to the YMCA’s Healthy Kids Campaign. Tickets are $8 in advance at the Y, or $8.50 at the event.

7 p.m. — Gospel Night with Union Street quartet and local gospel singers.


7:30 p.m. — Brazil Concert Band will perform “A Grand Patriotic Extravaganza.” (See story below.)


4 to 7:30 p.m. — Rotary Fish Fry at the pavilion. Proceeds go to Northview and Clay City high school bands. Advance tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for ages 12 and under; tickets at the event will be $8.50 and $5.50.

At both 6 and 7:30 p.m. — Northview High School Band, Color Guard, cheerleaders and North Clay Middle School Band and Cadet Corps will perform.


5:30 p.m. —  Community food booths open.

7 and 8:30 p.m. — Rock ’n’ roll review The Van Dells will perform.


1 to 2 p.m. — Special People’s Day

5:30 p.m. —  Community food booths open.

7 and 8:30 p.m. — Cari Ray and her band will perform Americana, roots and blues music.

July 4

3 p.m. —  Community food booths open.

3 p.m. — Midway opens.

4 p.m. — Memorial John J. Thomas 38th annual Sack Races in the Park with cash prizes; 4 p.m., ages 7 and under; 4:15 p.m., ages 9 and under; 4:30 p.m., ages 11 and under; 4:45 p.m., ages 13 and under; 5 p.m., ages 15 and under.

8 p.m. —  Brazil Community Choir will perform “This is My Country.”

10 p.m. — Gala fireworks show

11 p.m. — $10,000 grand prize drawing
