TERRE HAUTE — The First Congregational Church is planning its 25th annual Strawberry Festival from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Sixth and Ohio streets.

“The ladies that started this 25 years ago had a real eye for the future,” said the Rev. Dawn Carlson, explaining they expect to serve about 10,000 people.

The prices haven’t changed in 10 years, Carlson said. “If the price had gone up at the same rate that gasoline has gone up it would be something like $16 for “The Works,” which is still $5.”

Any other combination of berries, topping, ice cream and biscuit will range from $1 to $4. Dine in (tents and tables will be available) or carry out. Phone orders, for later pick up, can be made by calling 812-232-8880. Orders must be a minimum of four and will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.

“We actually fill some orders of 100,” Carlson said.

Pick-up is available until 6:30 p.m. in the church basement, accessible through the east door, between the church and the parking garage.

Business cards will be accepted as payment again this year. Cards are good for one order only and must be signed or initialed to ensure their authenticity. An invoice will then be sent via email or fax.
