Celebrate heritage, horses during Heritage Days on Old National Road

---- — Celebrate heritage and horses Saturday and Sunday in downtown Martinsville, Ill. An events team of Martinsville on the Move has planned a weekend of attractions and family activities during the Heritage Days on the Old National Road festival.

All equine enthusiasts are welcome to participate in the Equine Parade scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday. Participants can ride a horse, mule or donkey, or bring a hitch, carriage, wagon or buggy. Awards will be given for “best” of several categories, dependent on entries, including “best dressed” and “most authentic costume.” For more information or a registration form, call 217-382-3033 or email bklittle@gmail.com.

Heritage Days attractions will include artists and artisans selling their creations and providing demonstrations that include blacksmithing, pottery making, quilting, bee keeping, goat milking, lumber milling, wood carving, painting, jewelry making, spinning, basket weaving and making bobbin lace.

Other attractions will include a National Road storyteller, various bands playing throughout the festival, Fort LaMotte Rangers re-enactors, Native American re-enactors, Indian artifacts, antique tractors, as well as displays of antique quilts and antique musical instruments. Activities for children and adults include old-time games, a bike rodeo, a barrel train and petting zoo. Food vendors will supply festival fare.
