Terre Haute Symphony to perform holiday favorites

---- — The Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra will present its annual Holiday Concert at Indiana State University’s Tilson Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The concert will be preceded by the symphony’s Concert Conversations with David Bowden at 6:45 p.m. The concert will include familiar works including “Joy to the World,” “O Holy Night” and “Winter Wonderland.”

Guest artist for the evening tenor Neil Jones will perform holiday favorites, including “Home for the Holidays,” “Jingle Bells,” “White Christmas,” “O Holy Night,” “The Christmas Song,” “Baby its Cold Outside,” Angels We Have Heard on High” and will also lead an audience sing-along.

Jones, an Indiana native, has performed with the Chicago Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Toronto Symphony, Chicago Opera Theatre, Pittsburgh Symphony and the Cincinnati Pops. He has also visited 36 countries on five continents singing and dancing for audiences on the high seas. In addition to variety shows, Jones has performed 26 opera roles in the United States and Canada.

Local favorite Rob Waugh will be featured on piccolo trumpet performing “Rondeau,” which is widely known as the theme for “Masterpiece Theatre.” Bill Denton will be featured on oboe in a Hanukah tribute, “Music for the Festival of Lights.” In addition, Randy Mitchell will improvise in a jazz arrangement of “Frosty All the Way.”

The Tilson Auditorium accessible drop-off location is at Seventh Street and Larry Bird Avenue. Accessible seats are sold with one free companion seat and are available through the Hulman Center Ticket Office at 812-237-3737. Discounted group rates are available for groups of 10 or more also by calling the Hulman Center Ticket Office.  

Established in 1926, the Terre Haute Symphony is the oldest professional orchestra in Indiana. Each year, THSO offers the community five concerts in many different styles.

The extras

• Free “Family Time” concerts for children of all ages will be presented from 2 to 2:30 p.m. during the Saturday dress rehearsal in Tilson Auditorium. No tickets or reservations are required.
