Author Kendra Kuhn Brady will talk about her book, “The Brighter Side of Life,” at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 6 at the Rockville Public Library, 106 N. Market St. She also will be selling and signing books at this free event.
“The Brighter Side of Life” is about a 12-year-old boy, Jake, whose life, as far as he is concerned, is ruined. His parents are divorcing; he and his mother are moving from Cincinnati, Ohio, to Rockville, to a small trailer on his grandparent’s property. He will leave friends behind and no longer be part of his Little League team that won a championship.
Niki, Jake’s cocker spaniel, is a great friend and teaches Jake some hard lessons about life. She helps him lighten his burdens as she shares his room, his bed and his heart.
Many of the situations that Jake encounters are similar to the problems that children his age experience throughout their young lives. Through the undying love and companionship of his four-legged friend, he is able to discover “The Brighter Side of Life.”
Brady grew up in Rockville. She taught school for 32 years, many of those in Rockville. While teaching, Brady wrote three children’s books and read them to her students for many years.
She also has written two books about the Marco Island Men’s Softball League in Florida. Although Brady is retired, she still substitute teaches.
The book is dedicated to her former students who each day listened to a small portion of it and encouraged her to get it published.
