Marshall City Band concert Friday

MARSHALL, Ill. — The Marshall City Band is scheduled to perform a concert at 8 p.m. Friday on the Clark County Courthouse lawn in Marshall, Ill.

The band, under the direction of Ralph Stewart, will perform “I Believe In Music,” “Impressions of A Welsh Air,” “Victory Overture” based on Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, “Festive Winds,” “Scalawag,” “Malaguena,” “Muppet Movie Medley,” “Ides of March,” Lara’s Theme from “Doctor Zhivago,” “Instant Concert,” and “The Golden Age of Rock and Roll.” It will conclude with “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

This summer the band is collecting donations in memory of Harold Ellshoff, former band director of 45 years who passed away this spring. A scholarship fund is being set up in his honor. Donations can be made to the Marshall City Band to the attention of the Ellshoff Scholarship Fund. For more information, contact Richard or Cartha Gustafson at 217-826-3174.

The Clark County Historical Society plans an ice cream social during Friday’s concert.

Free band concerts are staged each Friday evening through Aug. 9 on the courthouse lawn. Families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
