Country act Parmalee to perform at Hi-99 Summer Bash

Free show includes Clare Dunn as opener

TERRE HAUTE — The Carolinas lie more than 500 miles from Terre Haute, but a musical slice of that region is coming to town.

The country act Parmalee — named for its members’ hometown in North Carolina, population 278 — will perform in an 8 p.m. concert Wednesday at the Fairbanks Park amphitheater. The show, the annual Hi-99 and Dorsett Automotive Summer Bash, includes Clare Dunn as the opener.

Admission is free.

Parmalee is a family band comprised of brothers Matt and Scott Thomas (lead vocals/guitar and drums, respectively), cousin Barry Knox (bass) and lifelong best friend Josh McSwain (guitar).

Recording on the Stoney Creek label, Parmalee charted a No. 1 single with “Carolina” culled from its debut album, “Feels Like Carolina,” which was released Dec. 10. The compilation received solid reviews from the New York Times, USA Today and Billboard, according to the band’s publicist. “Carolina” was the longest-climbing single by a duo or group in the 24-year history of the Billboard Country Airplay Chart.

Parmalee’s latest single, “Close Your Eyes,” has cracked the country music Top 30. That song can be heard at: The full album can be heard at:

The group is currently touring with platinum-selling country artist Jake Owen as the middle supporting act on select dates of the Days of Gold tour.

Paramlee made news in 2010 through a harrowing incident. In September of that year, the band was involved in an attempted robbery and shootout on its RV outside the club at which they had just played. The ordeal came on the eve of Parmalee traveling to Nashville for a showcase with Stoney Creek Records. Drummer Scott Thomas was shot three times and airlifted to a hospital in Charlotte, N.C. He was given a 5 percent chance of life by doctors, but miraculously survived after spending 35 days in the hospital, 10 of which he spent in a coma. He made a full recovery.
