Country singer Levi Riggs to perform on free stage

TERRE HAUTE — Swooning audiences since age 10 with John Michael Montgomery’s “Sold,” Levi Riggs, now 27 years old, creates a style of country music all on his own with his non-stop energy and enthusiasm.

Riggs will perform at 5 p.m. Monday on the Rick’s Smokehouse & Pepsi Free Stage during the Vigo County Fair at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds.

When it comes to authenticity, Riggs truly lives the country lifestyle he sings about, working with country music fans every day, selling corn and soybean seed to farmers in Indiana.

“I spend my weekdays visiting with growers and providing seed recommendations on their farms,” Riggs says. “They are my audience. … That’s who I am.” Riggs founded his own label, Windridge Records, and named it after his family’s Jersey dairy cattle farm.

Having spent his entire collegiate career on stage all over the world with the famous Purdue Varsity Glee Club, Riggs has learned to craft his recordings to fit his live show. His first single, “My Best Friend’s A Girl,” ran up the charts as an indie label at a rapid pace, peaking at No. 52 on Billboard Indicator.

Riggs opened for major acts throughout 2012, some of which include The Band Perry, Easton Corbin, Colt Ford, Justin Moore and Brett Eldredge.

Riggs wants songs his fans can sing along to and go home with a piece of him and what he has experienced in life. Like Johnny Cash — one of Riggs’ biggest music influences, along with Elvis Presley and Harry Chapin — Riggs sings and writes about what’s true to him, even if it means having to sing the heavier side of subjects.

“I don’t write songs just to write. … l write about what I have passion for, what I’m growing through and what’s real to me — and if I don’t write it, I pick songs that sound like I did.”

Last year marked a turning point in Riggs’ career with a new single on the charts “There’s Still A Place For That,” along with a music video taken in his hometown of Danville, Ind. The video expresses the values of the young country singer and his views of family, faith and patriotism.
