Singer-songwriter Aly Tadros to perform at The Verve

TERRE HAUTE — Although she calls Brooklyn, N.Y., home, singer/songwriter Aly Tadros has spent the last decade traveling (and touring) across Egypt, Turkey, Canada, Mexico and nearly all of Europe in an attempt to coalesce the diversity that is being both Egyptian and Texan, both a performer and a songwriter. Next on her list is Terre Haute. Tadros will be playing at The Verve on Friday.

When Tadros was offered her first paid gig, she had three original songs under her belt. The set time called for two hours.

She took it anyway.

Her voice is as angelic as it is weather-beaten, and her music NPR Austin calls “delightfully wistful indie folk with tender and earnest roots.” Banned with her classical and acoustic guitar, ukulele and vihuela, her travels have informed the breadth of her songwriting, noted best for its intimacy, honesty and lyricism.

Since starting music at 20, Tadros has played more than 600 stages across North America and Europe. This year has been her most exciting yet — with invitations to showcase with The Sweetness at The Folk Alliance International Conference, the CMJ festival in New York City and endorsements from Guild and Fender Guitars. Her sophomore album, The Fits, was produced by Duane Lundy (Jim James, Ben Sollee, These United States).

According to Interview Magazine: “Her sophomore album, The Fits, was released in January, and it’s clear that her influences range from Fiona Apple and Ani DiFranco to Tom Waits.”

The Verve is at 677 Wabash Ave. She is set to perform at 11 p.m. Visit www.thevervenightclub.com.
