Crosley Radio Players to present three radio classics in Remington

Show “Fibber McGee and Molly” featured character Wallace Wimple, portrayed by Terre Haute native Bill Thompson

The Crosley Radio Players are scheduled to perform at 8 p.m. on July 27 at the Fountain Park Chautauqua in Remington, Ind.

The Crosley program will include episodes of “The Whistler,” “Command Performance” and “Fibber McGee and Molly.”

“The Whistler,” one of radio’s top mysteries, aired from May 16, 1942 to Sept. 22, 1955. The show followed a formula in which a person’s criminal acts were undone either by an overlooked but important detail or by the perpetrator’s own stupidity.

“Command Performance” aired on Armed Forces Radio Service from 1942 to 1949, hosted each week by a well-known personality such as Bob Hope or Kay Kyser.

“Fibber McGee and Molly” ran for 24 years on the NBC Radio Network, starring real-live husband and wife Jim and Marian Jordan in the title roles. The show featured many long-running characters, such as Wallace Wimple, portrayed by Terre Haute native Bill Thompson.

For more information, visit The Chautauqua is one mile north of Remington. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for ages 13 to 17, and $3 for ages 5 to 12, available at the gate.
