Step back in time at Bridgeton’s annual Mountain Man Rendezvous

Bridgeton will host its 22nd annual Mountain Man Rendezvous from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Visitors will experience authentic pre-1840s living in a historic setting.

Walk through the Mountain Man encampment complete with trading posts and pioneer goods for sale. Watch live black powder muzzle loader shooting, a primitive bow shoot, a canoe race on Raccoon Creek and knife and tomahawk throwing demonstrations. There will be pioneer crafters at work and plenty of authentic old-time activities for the kids.

The Bridgeton Volunteer Fire Department will serve a Jonah fish fry from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday in the new firehouse.

For lunch visit Collom’s General Store or the Mill Snackshop for a variety of goodies. Or try some kettle corn or pork rinds at Jones Place.

Stop by the 1822 Case Log Cabin for a lesson in authentic pioneer hearth cooking, including the popular “chicken-on-a-string.” Visit the Bridgeton Grist Mill for a live 1800s corn grinding demonstration and try some fresh stone-ground Parke County products. Stop by the Carriage House Antiques and check out the nostalgic die-cast auto collection.

Check out the Old Lodge and Ye Olde Covered Bridge Shoppe, visit the 1878 Barn and the back of Collom’s Store for vendors, and other stores in town.

And don’t forget to take a stroll through the Bridgeton Covered Bridge.

There is no admission charge to any of the events.
