Each year, the James Jones Literary Society, along with Lincoln Trail College, gives a $500 Creative Writing Award to the best short story entry. This award is to continue the recognition of Jones’ collection of stories, “The Ice-Cream Headache,” by encouraging those 18 or older who are residents of Crawford or Clark counties to write their own stories.
This year’s award winner is Betty Brown of Flat Rock. She is a Robinson, Ill., native who has also been recognized by the Crawford County Council of the Arts for one of her short stories and a poem. Brown will be honored for her story, “The Lookout,” at a dinner following this year’s JJLS symposium.
Both events will be at Quail Creek Country Club on Friday.
