The Triple-T returns to Shakamak on Saturday

The Totally Tubular Try-Athlon is back for a third year Saturday at Shakamak State Park. Organized by The Friends of Shakamak, the event will benefit the American Cancer Society.

The Try-Athlon begins at 9:30 a.m. at Lake Kickapoo boat ramp. Participants are encouraged to arrive early with required safety and comfort gear. Swim tubes, life jackets, sunscreen, bike helmets and all other personal gear should be brought by the participant. A limited number of life jackets will be available at the park.

The event is a fun way to compete with or against your friends in three physically fun yet challenging events. A half-mile swim in Lake Kickapoo begins the morning schedule. All swimmers must wear a tube of some sort (thus the Tubular name), as well as a life jacket, during this out-and-back swim. Safety is assured by the presence of both lifeguards and open-water safety personnel. The second event is a three-mile bike ride complete with early morning scenery that takes participants across the Kickapoo-Lenape causeway. The final event is a one-and-a-half mile run/walk.

Each event begins and ends at the Lake Kickapoo boat ramp parking facility. “Tube socks” are the ideal wear for the final two events.

Participants must be at least 13 years old. This event is specifically designed to be a fun yet challenging way to measure your skills in three forms of exercise. Registration is $15 per person, or $40 per team of three. Team costumes and themes are strongly encouraged. Registration deadline is 7 p.m. Friday. Prizes will be awarded in age categories.

Contact the park at 812-665-2158 for entry materials, waiver forms and a more details. Also, email FriendsofShakamak@gmail.com or visit the Friends on Facebook.
