Indiana Rail Road invites public to tour $7.6 million facility Sept. 18

The Indiana Rail Road Co. invites the public to tour its state-of-the-art $7.6 million Locomotive Maintenance Facility near Jasonville from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday.

The public open house is billed as a “thank you” to the citizens of southwestern Indiana and Greene County, as Indiana Rail Road continues its years-long plan of investing for future growth in the region.

The open house will take place after an invitation-only ribbon-cutting ceremony for railroad officials and local and state VIPs, including Rep. Larry Bucshon, who will officially open the maintenance center and a new era of operating efficiency and environmental stewardship for the railroad.

The facility replaces a cramped, 100-year-old engine house and is equipped with state-of-the-art environmental controls, an ergonomically friendly and climate-controlled working environment for the railroad’s mechanical team, and an on-site parts warehouse. The facility is located at Hiawatha Yard, the operational hub of the system.

The railroad’s $7.6 million investment in the facility represents one of the largest private infrastructure investments in Greene County history. All told, the railroad has invested more than $160 million in private capital into its infrastructure since the company was founded in 1986.

In addition to tours, refreshments will be available for the public. The address for the maintenance center is 1250 S. Meridian St., Jasonville.

Guests should follow signs to designated parking.
