Clay County Extension to host annual nature day

BRAZIL, Ind. — Purdue Extension Clay County is hosting what it calls a “fun, educational way to spend a Saturday” on Sept. 14 at the Clay County 4-H Fairgrounds.

The event is the fifth annual Nature Day. It is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Nature Day will include informational booths on edible plants, forestry, water quality, tai chi and yoga. Several booths will have hands-on activities.

Attendees can also stop by booths related to the four Bs: bats, bees, birds and butterflies.

An interactive display called “Be a Tooth Sleuth,” will allow visitors to see how teeth vary, based on whether the animal is an omnivore, herbivore or carnivore.

At 10 a.m., a creek stomp will take place, at 11 a presentation on raptors will be given and at noon snakes will take center stage during the “Snakes Alive!” program.

Visitors can also participate in a yoga class from 10 to 11 a.m.

There also will be a photography contest this year, with divisions for youth and adults. Entries are due Sept. 13, to the Clay County Extension Office. Photos need to be framed for hanging or salon-mounted.

All activities are free.
