Metro Roundup: Rain pushes Action Track racing back to July 25

TERRE HAUTE —
Steady rain on Saturday forced a postponement to July 25 for the Indiana Union Construction Industry Classic featuring the O’Reilly All-Star Circuit of Champions winged sprint car series at the Action Track.
All times will be the same for the July 25 date. Ticket office will open at 3 p.m., gates at 4 and hot laps beginning at approximately 6.
The O’Reilly All-Star Circuit of Champions sprint series ran its scheduled race at K-C Raceway in Chilicothe, Ohio on Friday night.
Track promoter Jim Nier assumed the lead on lap eight and won his first CofC feature race. Rounding out the top five were Dale Blaney, Brandon Wimmer, Tim Shaffer and Jimmy Stinson.
Shaffer continues to lead the driver points standings with 4,281 points, followed by Blaney (4,036), Greg Wilson (3,878) and Stevie Smith (3,257).
The next scheduled event at the Action Track is July 15, featuring the USAC National Sprint Cars in the First Financial Bank Indiana Sprint Week presented by 500 Express.

In other auto racing:
• Santos, East win — At Toledo, Ohio, Bobby East and Bobby Santos III were feature winners Friday in U. S. Auto Club racing at Toledo Speedway.
Santos led all the way in taking the 50-lap midget main, winning his fourth race in less than a month.
Brad Kuhn was seventh and has a 20-point lead over Jerry Coons Jr. in the midget totals.
East led the final six turns to win the sprint feature. Jacob Wilson led the first 44 laps and was second.

• Holtsclaw posts win — At Bloomington, Danny Holtsclaw won one of the features in Friday’s racing at Bloomington Speedway.
Holtsclaw took the lead late to win his first sprint feature of the season at the track. Other winners were Jack Frye in super stocks and Kent Robinson in UMP modifieds.
