Bicentennial Art Center in Paris plans 57th Annual Fall Show

TERRE HAUTE — The Bicentennial Art Center in Paris, Ill., is celebrating its 57th year showcasing the Annual Fall Show.

The Art Center, at 132 S. Central Ave., is hosting the show in its main floor galleries now through Nov. 18. The opening reception will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today.

The judge for the Fall Show, Christopher T. Troutman, professor at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, will critique the exhibit and hand out awards at about 5:30 p.m.

The long tradition of the Annual Fall Show brings forth the works of artists residing within a 100-mile radius of Paris. Because the show is open to all art media, except photography, the exhibit is diverse in content, and this year 70 works were submitted by 28 artists.

The judge awarded the following awards: Judge’s Choice Award: Jan Kappes, Charleston, for her pencil drawing “Beware of the Old Woman = Self Portrait.” The five merit awards were given to: Sarah Lueken, Paris, for her pastel “Dormitory on 7th”; John Gabb, Effingham, Ill., for his watercolor painting “Altered Perception”;  J. Anna Roberts, Brownsburg, Indiana, for her watercolor “Three Antiques”; Jane Tiscornia, Danville, Ill., for her mixed media piece “Heliopsis Down Under”; and Amy Caltry, Charleston, for her watercolor painting “Curiosity.”

Honorable Mention awards were given to: Gary Fuller, Kansas, Ill., “They Came To See It”, mixed media; Laura Mason, Terre Haute, “Exhibition Quilt = 58 Exhibition Postcards”, collage; John Gabb, Effingham, “Waterford and Lemons”, pastel; Jo Rich, Marshall, Ill., “Milkweed Pod”, watercolor, and “In Thought”, pencil; and Eric Johnson, Paris, “West Bound Road”, oil.

Local businesses and individuals sponsored the awards for the Annual Fall Show.

The Art Center is handicap accessible. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, or by appointment. For more details, call the Art Center at (217) 466-8130.
