Baby blue bird carving steals show

TERRE HAUTE — A wood carving of a baby blue bird earned wildlife artist Kenny Vermillion Best of Show at the Raven Art Gallery’s Fall Show, which is open through the end of October. Recently Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels presented one of Vermillion’s bird carvings to a Chinese dignitary.

Many fine local artists are represented in the Raven’s show with the following awards being presented:

Best of Show — “Baby Blue Bird” by Kenny Vermillion (wood carving)

Category 3-D

1st Place — “Etching Glass” by Todd Stokes (etching)

2nd Place — “Setting Sun” by Deborah Anderson (wood intarsia)

Honorable Mention — “The Worm and I” by Dave Gahimer (wood turning)

Category 2-D

1st Place — “South White Rock” by Robert D. Gibbons (watercolor)

2nd Place — “Brazilian Children” by Alan Griffith (acrylic)

Honorable Mention — “Lucy” by Kathleen Kirkpatrick (pastel)
