Swope to feature student art through May 10

Special to the Tribune-Star

TERRE HAUTE The 41st Annual Swope Student Art Exhibition, sponsored by Old National Bank, runs from Saturday through May 10 in the Swope Art Museum.

The exhibit features student artwork from 10 area high schools and one home school association. The high-school level of this long-standing exhibition is open to surrounding counties and home schools in addition to the schools of Vigo County.

This year’s juror is Patricia Bellville, associate professor of art education at Eastern Illinois University. Selection into the 41st Annual Student Art Exhibition is an honor; only 71 artworks out of 218 were selected for the high-school portion of the exhibit, and 27 artworks were selected as award winners.

Additionally, all the Vigo County School Corp. elementary and middle schools and two private schools are represented with an additional 177 artworks. This year’s students will be honored at an opening reception 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. An awards ceremony begins at 2:15 for all high-school award winners.
