Swope Art Museum receives grant award

The Tribune-Star

TERRE HAUTE Sheldon Swope Art Museum has been awarded $1,000 from the 2007 grant program of the Indiana Humanities Council, a not-for-profit agency working in cooperation with the National Endowment for the Humanities.

The council announced Friday from Indianapolis the year’s first round of recipients for its $1,000 grants to not-for-profits all over the state.

The IHC offers several grant programs with deadlines throughout the year. The programs awarded money from the first round of grants are designed to advance multicultural understanding, reconnect Hoosiers with their past and encourage artistic awareness.

For more information about other grants available, interested parties may contact the Indiana Humanities Council at 1-800-675-8897 or at www.indianahumanities.org.

The Indiana Humanities Council is an independent, not-for-profit organization supported by contributions from individuals, corporations, foundations and by the National Endowment for the Humanities. In its 30 years of existence, the council has created a legacy of work dedicated to promoting education, nurturing leaders and expanding cultural resources.

The city of Terre Haute recently created an Arts Corridor along Seventh Street in the downtown district. Public sculpture is being placed here, and the Swope Art Museum will co-sponsor a lecture series bringing the artists to meet with public audiences and discuss their work. The project is co-sponsored by Art Spaces.
