Otters sweep 6th-, 7th-grade girls titles

WEST TERRE HAUTE — Otter Creek’s sixth- and seventh-grade girls basketball teams were victorious in their respective championship games Thursday evening at West Vigo High School.

The sixth-grade Otters squad played a hard-fought contest against the Woodrow Wilson Warriors, winning by a 16-15 margin for the title. After Teagan Russell of the Warriors hit a game tying 3-pointer with 1:07 left on the clock, a subsequent foul by Russell on Sasha Thompson allowed Thompson the opportunity to hit what proved to be the game-winning free throw for Otter Creek.

In the seventh-grade game, the elder Otters managed to come out on top in a competitive contest with Honey Creek. The Otters entered the fourth quarter trailing the Bees 22-21, only to come through with 16 points in the final six minutes to seal the victory 37-22.
