Mr. and Mrs. James R. Lear

Mr. and Mrs. James R. “Jim” Lear will celebrate 50 years of marriage on Oct. 16, 2009.

Jim and the former Wanda McDonald were classmates at Farmersburg Elementary School and began dating in high school. They were married at the Farmersburg Presbyterian Church on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 16, 1959.

After graduating from Indiana State University with a bachelor of science degree in business, Jim began his career with Terre Haute Mutual Federal Savings and Loan Association. He worked 40 years with the bank, serving the last 14 as its president and chief executive officer. Jim continues to be involved in several community and professional boards and is very involved in his church and the church choir.

Wanda worked 18 years in banking at Peoples State Bank in Farmersburg then retired to enjoy the many activities of her family and involved herself in various community organizations.

They are loved and admired by their two children, Jill Lear Williams and James R. “Dick” Lear II. Jill and her husband, Dr. Robert “Bill” Williams III live in Austin, Texas, and Dick and his wife, Dr. Lisa Nonweiler Lear, live in Tucson, Ariz. Jill and Bill have two daughters, Maddi Lear Williams and Rory Suzanne Williams, who adore their Nana and Papa.

The golden anniversary will be celebrated on Sunday, Oct. 4, at noon in the fellowship hall of the Farmersburg Presbyterian Church on East Main Street in Farmersburg. Cards of congratulations would be enjoyed and may be mailed to Jim and Wanda Lear, P.O. Box 131, Farmersburg, IN 47850.

Family and friends congratulate Jim and Wanda on 50 years of marriage and wish them many more years of love, happiness and good health!



Mr. and Mrs. R. Melvin James

Mr. and Mrs. R. Melvin James will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 11.

Friends and relatives are invited to an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, in the MCL Conference Center at The Meadows shopping center.

The couple were married Oct. 13, 1939.

Mrs. James, the former Anna Gallez, is a retired registered nurse.

James is retired from Pennsylvania Railroad, and its successors.

The couple have three children, Steve James of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Linda Lortz of St. James Plantation, N.C., and Donna Huxel of Terre Haute.

They also have four grandchildren.



Mr. and Mrs.

Robert Maxwell

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Maxwell of Terre Haute will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009.

Robert and Phyllis were married Oct. 6, 1984, in the First Baptist Church of North Terre Haute.

Mrs. Maxwell is a retired hairdresser and salon owner.

Maxwell is a salesman for Horner Electric.

The couple have seven children, Jerrilynn Bayless and husband Kenny, Cheryl Martin and husband Gary, Dawn Vinardi and husband Keith, and Kelly Maxwell, all of Terre Haute; and Robert Maxwell Jr. and wife Kimberly of Brownsburg, Jay Dunn and wife Sherry of Greensburg, and Christopher Dunn and companion Sharon Steadman of Denver, Colo.

They also have 15 grandchildren.

Joe Conley

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Conley of Poland, Ind., recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with a trip to Playa Del Carman, Mexico.

The Conleys were married Sept. 6, 1969, in the Methodist Temple at Terre Haute.

Mrs. Conley, the former Connie Myles, is employed by Indiana American Water Co. in Terre Haute.

Conley is the director of the Indiana State University Field Campus in Brazil.

The couple have two sons, Joe Conley Jr. and Dan Conley.

They also have one grandson.
