Indiana State football coach Trent Miles announced Friday the addition of Brandon Dorsett (Terre Haute, Ind./North Vigo) to the football program beginning this fall. Dorsett joins 33 others who have officially joined the program to date under coach Miles.
Dorsett, son of Indiana State Athletics Hall of Famer and former Major League Baseball athlete Brian Dorsett, comes to the Sycamore program following a stand-out high school career. As a senior for the Patriots, Dorsett was a Second Team All-Valley selection as a wide receiver while he also earned Honorable Mention All-State status by the Associated Press. He also earned Special Mention All-State honors this past fall by the Bloomington Herald-Times.
As a senior at North, Dorsett hauled in a school-record tying 52 pass receptions and caught at least one pass in all 11 games, which also tied a school-record. Dorsett has already enjoyed a career highlight on the Memorial Stadium turf as he was on the receiving end of a Matt Seliger (current Sycamore) pass for a touchdown that secured a victory for the Patriots over rival Terre Haute South during the 2006 season.
During his junior season, Dorsett also earned Honorable Mention Junior All-State honors by the Bloomington Herald Times as well as Second Team All-State Honorable Mention plaudits.
Dorsett is also a star baseball player for the Patriots, as he paces the team with three home runs this season and is near the team lead with 23 RBI and a .359 batting average. On the mound, Dorsett has compiled a 3.32 ERA and has struck out 30 batters in 38 innings of work.
The Sycamores are currently scheduled for report for fall camp on July 30, with the first practice set for July 31. The 2008 campaign begins on August 28 when the Sycamores travel to face Mid-American Conference foe Eastern Michigan.
